Zeng Fanzhi Studio Visit

The style of art that Zeng is currently producing, as exhibited at the Gagosian.

In the Caochangdi District of Beijing lie the studios of many of China’s big art stars (including that of Ai Weiwei, as previously mentioned). We were kindly invited to the studio of Zeng Fanzhi for a meeting with his studio manager Caspar, and a good nose around!

Zeng Fanzhi is a Chinese art superstar as one of Asia’s most financially successful artist. His painting Mask Series 1996 No.6 set a world record in May 2008 when it sold for $9.6million at auction in Hong Kong. Zeng Fanzhi has shown his work in many major exhibitions such as at the Singapore Art Museum, Fundacian Godia in Barcelona, as well as at the Rockbund Art Museum in Shanghai. In 2009, Zeng also participated in the Bienalle di Venezia. Gagosian Britannia Street is currently exhibiting his works in a solo show focusing on Zeng’s paintings inspired by German Renaissance Master Albrecht Dürer (ending January 19th).

Source of inspiration: Dürer sketchbooks and Il Divo?!
